Nissan Frontier: Rear Door Alert
The Rear Door Alert system in the Nissan Frontier is designed to help drivers
remember to check the rear seating area for passengers, children, pets, or belongings
before leaving the vehicle. This feature enhances safety by providing reminders
under specific conditions.
The system does not directly detect occupants or objects. Instead, the Nissan
Frontier monitors rear door activity to determine whether a reminder may be necessary.
By default, the Rear Door Alert system is turned OFF. The driver can easily activate
or customize it through the vehicle information display settings.
When the system is enabled in the Nissan Frontier:
- The system becomes active if a rear door is opened and then closed within
10 minutes before the vehicle begins moving. Once the driver’s door is closed,
a visual notification will appear in the vehicle information display.
- If a rear door is opened and closed but the Nissan Frontier is not driven
within approximately 10 minutes, the system will not activate. For proper activation,
a rear door must be operated and the vehicle driven within this time frame.
After reaching the destination and the Rear Door Alert system is active in the
Nissan Frontier:
- When shifting the transmission into the P (Park) position, a message appears
in the display allowing the driver to either "Dismiss Message" or "Disable Alert"
if desired.
- If the system remains enabled and the driver exits the Nissan Frontier without
opening a rear door, an audible horn alert will sound after a short delay as
a reminder.
- If the vehicle is locked before the alert is cleared by opening a rear door,
the horn will also activate.
- When the audible alert is triggered, a message such as "Check Rear Seat
for All Articles" will be displayed in the vehicle information screen.
This system is particularly useful for preventing accidental leaving of children,
pets, or important items in the rear seats of the Nissan Frontier, especially after
routine trips.
WARNING
- If the driver selects "Disable Alert" in the Nissan Frontier settings,
the audible horn reminder will not sound, regardless of rear door activity.
- There may be situations where a passenger or object is present in the
rear seats, but no alert is triggered. For example, if a rear passenger enters
or exits during the trip without opening the door at the start, the system may
not activate.
- The Rear Door Alert system in the Nissan Frontier does not detect occupants
directly. It only monitors whether rear doors were opened and closed, which
serves as an indirect indicator.
NOTE:
In some cases, the horn alert may sound even if there are no passengers or
objects in the rear seat area of the Nissan Frontier. This is normal system behavior
based on door activity detection.
