Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ Setting gauge -3371-

Removing

Important

● Bicycle carrier mounting must be removed.

– Remove tail lights in side panel → Electrical system; Rep. gr.94; Tail lights; Removing and installing tail light.

– Detach rear wheel housing liners in area of bumper cover → Rep. gr.66; Removing and installing rear wheel housing liner.

– Unscrew bolts -1- in wheel housing on left and right.

– Remove spreader rivets -2-.


– Unscrew stop buffer -2-.

Important

● The aid of an additional person is required for the subsequent work steps.

– Unclip bumper cover -1- in direction of -arrow A- from guide, and hold it there.

– Pull off bumper cover -1- in direction of -arrow B-.


– Separate electrical connector.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Verify gaps using setting gauge -3371-. Observe → Rep. gr.00; Gaps - rear when doing this.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ Attachment device for PDC holder -VAS 6614/7-

♦ Clip, M-shaped -VAS 6872/3-

♦ Drill bit -VAS 6614/4-

♦ Hand set -VAS 6872/1-

♦ Screw-hole punch 29.3mm -VAS 895 011-

The holder for park assist steering sender will henceforth be referred to as “holder”.

The installation is described for one of the holders as an example.

The holder is installed after the bumper cover has been painted.

Installing

Markings -2- for holder are located on inside of bumper cover -1-.

– Predrill hole using drill bit -VAS 6614/4- -3-.


– Fit screw-hole punch, 29.3mm -VAS 895 011- with screw head -1-, washer and counter-support -2- from inside of bumper cover -3-.

– Screw on punch -4- until just before bumper cover -3-.

– Press punch -4- against bumper cover -3-.

– Tighten bolt head -1-.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to component surfaces due to turning the screw-hole punch.

– Hold the screw-hole punch firmly.

– Turn screw head -1- to pull punch -4- in direction of -arrow- through material of bumper cover -3-.

– Remove screw-hole punch, 29.3mm -VAS 895 011- from bumper cover -3-.


– Centre holder -1- via hole, and use attachment device for PDC holder -VAS 6614/7- -2- to secure holder in direction of -arrow- to bumper cover -3-.


– Refer to figure for positions of clip, M-shaped -VAS 6872/3- -2- on holder -1-.


– Secure clip, M-shaped -VAS 6872/3- -3- in direction of -arrow A- in hand set -VAS 6872/1- -2-.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to bumper cover due to inaccurate adjustment of spacer.

– Observe the exact distance.

If the distance is too low, the holder -4- will not be secured properly.

If the distance is too high, the clips -3- will leave marks on the bumper cover -1-.

– Adjust distance -A- to 3 mm.

– Allow clip -3- to melt in without applying force.

– Switch off -hand set- when spacer makes contact with holder.

– Allow the clip to cool down for 10 s. Do not move -hand set- during this period.

– Once the cool-down period has elapsed, pull off hand set -2-, and proceed analogously for the remaining clips -3-.

– Once all clips -3- have been installed, cut off ends of all clips -3-.

Removing

– Remove rear bumper cover → Rep. gr.63; Removing and installing bumper cover.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Lift bumper carrier -3- in direction of -arrow- out of tabs -1-, and remove it.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

♦ → Rep. gr.63; Assembly overview – bumper carrier

Removing and installing rear bumper cover spoiler

Removing and installing rear bumper cover spoiler

Removing

– Remove bumper cover → Rep. gr.63; Removing and installing bumper cover.

– Release fasteners -2- on both sides of vehicle while holding spoiler -1- under tension.

– Remove spoiler -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Attach rear bumper cover spoiler making sure it engages audibly.

Removing and installing forced ventilation for passenger compartment

Removing and installing forced ventilation for passenger compartment

Removing

– Remove bumper cover → Rep. gr.63; Removing and installing bumper cover.

– Release locking devices -arrows- using commercially available plastic wedge.

– Remove forced ventilation for passenger compartment -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Attach forced ventilation for passenger compartment making sure it engages audibly.

Removing

Vehicles with mounting for bicycle carrier

All vehicles (continued)

– Fold out number plate carrier -1- in direction of -arrow-.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Release locking lugs -3-, and pull out number plate carrier -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
