Nissan Frontier: Hill start assist system

WARNING

• Do not rely solely on the hill start assist system in the Nissan Frontier to prevent rollback when starting on an incline. Always remain alert and keep your foot on the brake pedal when necessary.

  Particular care should be taken on steep, icy, or muddy slopes. Failure to properly control the vehicle may result in unintended backward movement, increasing the risk of accidents and serious injury.

• The hill start assist system is not intended to hold the Nissan Frontier stationary for extended periods on a hill. Always keep the brake pedal engaged when stopped on an incline. Failure to do so may allow the vehicle to roll backward and cause a collision.
• The effectiveness of the hill start assist system may vary depending on load and road conditions.

  Always be prepared to apply the brakes manually to prevent rollback. Neglecting this may result in loss of control or serious personal injury.

When the Nissan Frontier is stopped on an incline, the hill start assist system automatically maintains brake pressure for a short period. This provides the driver with enough time to transition from the brake pedal to the accelerator without the vehicle rolling backward.

The hill start assist system in the Nissan Frontier operates automatically when the following conditions are met:

• The shift lever is engaged in either a forward or reverse gear.
• The vehicle is completely stationary on an incline while the brake pedal is pressed.

The system holds the vehicle in place for up to approximately 2 seconds.

After this period, the Nissan Frontier may begin to roll if the accelerator is not applied, and the hill start assist function will disengage.

The hill start assist system will not activate if the transmission is in N (Neutral) or P (Park), or when the vehicle is positioned on a flat surface.
