WARNING

  • Never rely solely on the hill descent control system of the Nissan Frontier to regulate speed on steep declines. Always remain attentive and be prepared to apply the brakes when necessary. Failure to maintain control may result in loss of vehicle control and serious injury or death.
  • The system may not maintain a constant speed under all conditions, including varying loads or challenging terrain. Always be ready to intervene using the brake pedal to ensure safe operation of the Nissan Frontier.

CAUTION

Extended use of the hill descent control system may increase brake temperature. If overheating occurs, the system may temporarily deactivate and the indicator light may flash. If the indicator does not remain steadily illuminated, discontinue use until the system cools.

The hill descent control system in the Nissan Frontier is engineered to assist the driver when navigating steep downhill slopes by automatically controlling vehicle speed.

This allows the driver to focus primarily on steering while the system manages braking input.

To activate the hill descent control system in the Nissan Frontier, the following conditions must be met:

  • The transmission must be in a forward or reverse gear.
  • The 4WD selector must be set to 4L with vehicle speed below approximately 15 mph (25 km/h), or
  • The 4WD selector must be set to 4H with vehicle speed below approximately 21 mph (35 km/h).
  • The hill descent control switch must be turned ON.

When activated, the Nissan Frontier hill descent control ON indicator light will illuminate. Additionally, the brake lights may illuminate as the system automatically applies braking to maintain controlled speed.

If the accelerator or brake pedal is pressed while the system is active, the hill descent control function will pause temporarily. Once the pedals are released and conditions remain appropriate, the system will resume operation.

If the indicator light flashes, it means that the required operating conditions are not met or the system has been temporarily disengaged.

To deactivate the hill descent control system, press the switch to the OFF position.
