Ignoring the guidelines and safety instructions for correct use of the Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system in the Nissan Frontier may lead to serious injury or even fatal consequences.

• The I-DA system in the Nissan Frontier functions only as a driver support feature that warns about possible fatigue or reduced attention. It does not take control of the vehicle, steer, or prevent accidents.
• The system cannot detect driver fatigue or distraction in every possible situation or driving condition.
• The driver remains fully responsible for:
  • maintaining full attention at all times,
  • operating the Nissan Frontier safely,
  • keeping the vehicle properly within the lane,
  • retaining full control of steering and speed,
  • avoiding driving when tired or fatigued,
  • minimizing distractions such as mobile phone use or other activities.

The Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system in the Nissan Frontier is designed to help recognize signs of driver fatigue or reduced concentration and provide timely alerts.

This system continuously analyzes driving behavior, including steering inputs and patterns over time. By comparing current behavior with previously established driving patterns, the Nissan Frontier I-DA system can detect deviations that may indicate reduced alertness. When such changes are identified, both visual and audible alerts are triggered to recommend that the driver take a break.

Intelligent Driver Alertness system operation

If the Nissan Frontier system determines that driver attention is decreasing or fatigue is likely, a message such as “Take a break?” will appear in the vehicle information display, accompanied by an audible alert when driving speeds exceed approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).

The system continuously monitors driver behavior and may issue multiple alerts during a single trip if necessary, helping to maintain safe driving conditions in the Nissan Frontier.

The monitoring process resets whenever the ignition is switched OFF and then back ON, allowing the system to recalibrate and reassess the driver’s behavior from the beginning of each trip.

How to enable/disable the Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system

To activate or deactivate the I-DA system in your Nissan Frontier, follow these steps:

1. Press the button until "Settings" appears in the vehicle information display.

Use the button to navigate to "Driver Assistance," then press the ENTER button.

2. Select "Driver Attention" and confirm with the ENTER button to switch the system ON or OFF.

NOTE:

The selected setting for the Nissan Frontier I-DA system is retained even after the engine is restarted, ensuring consistent driver assistance preferences.

Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system limitations

The following limitations apply to the I-DA system. Failure to understand and consider these limitations when driving the Nissan Frontier may result in serious injury or death.

• The I-DA system may not function correctly or may fail to issue alerts under the following conditions:
  • Driving on uneven or damaged road surfaces, including potholes.
  • Strong crosswinds affecting vehicle stability.
  • Sporty or aggressive driving styles with rapid acceleration or sharp cornering.
  • Frequent changes in speed or repeated lane changes.
• The system will not provide warnings in these situations:
  • When vehicle speed is below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).
  • During very short periods of inattention.
  • In cases of sudden or momentary distractions, such as dropping an object.

Additional note: Environmental conditions and driving style variations can influence how accurately the Nissan Frontier I-DA system evaluates driver attention, so it should always be used as a supportive feature rather than a primary safety mechanism.

System malfunction

If a malfunction occurs in the Nissan Frontier Intelligent Driver Alertness system, a warning message will appear in the vehicle information display, and the system will automatically deactivate to prevent incorrect operation.

Action to take

If a malfunction warning appears, safely pull over, shift the Nissan Frontier into P (Park), turn off the engine, and then restart it. If the warning message persists after restarting, have the system inspected by an authorized NISSAN dealer to ensure proper functionality.
