Corrosion protection for attachments and welded components
♦ Immediately prime bare metal spots after repair.
♦ Always remove burrs from drill holes.
♦ Always apply welding primer/structural adhesive (according to vehicle-specific body repair workshop manual ) on both sides of welding flanges.
♦ Prime seam areas from the inside and outside before sealing them.
♦ Apply sealant only on panel parts coated with primer.
♦ Use sealant to completely seal overlapping panels, edges, butt joints, weld seams etc.
♦ Weld seams must not be ground, as otherwise the strength of the weld seam will be impaired.
♦ Establish paintwork structure as described in paintwork manual → General information, paint; Rep. gr.54; General notes; Paintwork structure in aftersales.
♦ Restore the underseal using long-term underseal material.
♦ Seal cavities in repair area after top-coating.
♦ Separating cuts (e.g. in side panel) must be sealed completely.
♦ After the cavity sealant has dried, clear the water drains.
Cavity sealing
Important
● Before starting work it is important to consult the safety data sheets for information on safety measures.
● Even for products which are not required by law to be labelled, the usual safety measures for chemical products must be observed.
● Functional parts, e.g. brake systems, exhaust systems, rubber and plastic parts, must not be sprayed.
♦ Preservative which drips out can be easily wiped away.
♦ The approved plastic cleaner is suitable for removing dried material.
♦ Larger areas may be cleaned with a high-pressure steam cleaner. Splashes on painted surfaces should be removed immediately.
